The number of views that the K-POP songs at Youtube has been surveyed and the songs which has received the most love is Wonder Girls’ ‘Nobody’. The video was uploaded in November, 2008 and it has already reached over 50,000,000 views.

2NE1, 2PM, Big Bang, Shinee, SNSD, Super Junior, Wonder Girls, all 7 groups contribute to the TOP 20 songs. 2NE1 and SNSD each has 5 songs on the chart while Super Junior has 4. The followings are Shinee who has 3 songs, BIGBANG has 2 and G- Dragon has 1. JYP, SME and YGE are whom all these groups belong to.

All the songs which have entered the TOP 20 are the dance music of the idol groups. It suggests that the combination of K-POP idol and dancing music are well received by the world. ‘Big Bang and 2NE1 ‘s ‘Lollipop’ and ‘Cabi Song’ of SNSD and 2PM have attracted so many views already.

It is said that the popularity of the videos have been raised for the agencies have made separate channels for their artists. The number of the subscribers for these 3 companies has reached 800,000 and it has accumulated a record of over 700,000,000. A scholar who analyzed Pop Music said, ‘ the K-POP idol craze has been helping them to promote. They are very popular in North America and Europe with the good accessibility of the Internet . He further explained, ‘the opening of these channels has kept helping them for their new promotions and the channels can also help releasing the on-going process of the works they are doing.’

The were on KBS WinWin aired on 1st June when Yubin revealed the embarrassing incident. There was once when Sohee and Yubin had gone to the restaurant together. And their manager had gone to the toilet leaving the 2 for a while when a fan approached them.
The fan had asked Yubin for permission to ask for an autograph from Sohee. It turned out that the fan had mistaken Yubin as SoHee’s manager. And Yubin had coolly allowed the fan to ask for an autograph from Sohee.

Following that, the Wonder Girls revealed another embarrassing incident which happened to them while they were in a Korean restaurant in the States.

Even though they were wearing their stage costumes, they were mistaken for group 2NE1.

Yubin said, “Back then SunYe was not around and we were 4 members. Seeing us as 4 members, an employee at the restuarant asked us if we are 2NE1. When we denied, they asked if we were Brown Eyed Girls. Our managers then got angry, and when we were introduced to the employee as Wonder Girls, the employee said ‘I like Wonder Girls. I listen to the song ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ (SNSD’s song) on my mp3.’ We were flustered.”

In February and March we saw the domination of girl groups in the hands of  Girls’ Generation, T-ara and KARA; and recently After School and Secret released their new songs, “Bang!” and “Magic”. It looks like girl groups will continue taking over the K-pop scene in the upcoming months.

SM Entertainment’s latest girl group, f(x), and group LPG are expected to release a new album in mid April. It has also been announced recently that 2NE1 from YG Entertainment will be making their comeback this month. Meanwhile, new group SISTAR will debut with Bang Shi Hyuk as their producer.

In mid May we’ll be seeing the much awaited comeback of Wonder Girls.

With their new song and choreography already completed, Wonder Girls are all set to make their comeback in Korea with new member Lim after being away promoting in the US. But they won’t be alone since 4Minute from Cube Entertainment are currently working on their new album and aiming for a May comeback also.

There will also be a debut from a new 9 member girl group that will have the winner of 2007 Asia Pacific Model Contest, Lee Hyun Joo, as a member.

A select group of Korea’s top plastic surgeons was recently gathered together and interviewed by tvN. Topic of choice? They were asked to rate kpop’s finest females and determine who among them is the most beautiful.

To determine this, surgeons utilized a specific 10 point rating system: 10 points for the overall image, another 10 points for their facial features, and a final 10 points for their figures. That’s a grand total of 30 points for beauty! Let’s go through the list, shall we?

Kicking things off for us is 4Minute’s poppin’ queen HyunA with a measly 8 points. Ouch! With only ten points more, SNSD’s Tiffany is up next. Kara’s Nicole and After School’s JooYeon both garnered 19 points. SNSD’s Yoona fared much better in comparison to Tiffany, scoring 22 points along with T-ara’s Jiyeon. Second place belongs to 2NE1’s selca master, Sandara Park, who scored 23 points.

So who is the most beautiful kpop female according to these surgeons’ standards? With a grand total of 25 points, it’s none other than the Wonder Girls‘ leader, SunYe!

Will the Girl Group craze continue in 2010?

  The first keyword of the Kpop is undoubtedly ‘Girl Group’ craze. Unlike in 2008 when Wonder Girls and Girls Generation took a central place, TV screens were filled with a number of girl groups in 2009.

  Girls Generation, Brown Eyed Girls, 2NE1, 4minute, T-ara, Kara, f(x), Secret, Ham, After School, JQT … the music programs were full of girl group members for a fairly long time. And they swept every entertainment program. They were featured in the entertainment programs titled ‘Girl Group Special’ and eventually the real variety program, ‘Invincible Youth’ was made, which consisted of only girl group members.

  The K-pop’s main concern is if the Girl Group craze will continue in 2010. There are three opinions on the question.

  The first one is that the Girl Group craze is still alive, Girls Generation and other groups almost swept the year-end music awards, and the spending trends of the public will not change so easily. It is evident in the ‘Pink Paper’ issued by Mnet. Among singing ability, appearance, friendliness, trend, album, entertainment program, performance, broadcast, commercial and so on, ‘Bigmama’ was chosen in the singing ability section and ‘MC Mong’, in the entertainment program section but Girls Generation was picked in all the rest by male fans. Especially the fact that there’s no other way of attracting the eyes of the male fans supports the effectiveness of the girl group craze.

  The second one is that the late-comers and the groups preparing for their debut might not be able to call public attention in a condition where it is focused on the front-runners. T-ara and f(x), they are said to be the last one. The girl groups who had appeared after their debut dropped the curtain after receiving attention for a short time or appearing on TV once or twice. The Rainbow produced by the large agency, DSP got attention even before their debut, but after that, their impact was so small.

  On this account, the late-starters without any distinct features will have a tough time while Girls Generation, Brown Eyed Girls, 2NE1, 4minute, T-ara, etc, the front-runners continuing their activities in 2010.

  The third one is that the power of the girl group craze will completely disappear. If they become similar to each other, they cannot receive any more public curiosity and interest. Also 2PM, Mblaq, Beast, ZE:A, Big Bang and so forth will probably start their activities again. It was not the absence of male groups that led to the success of girl groups. But you can predict that the craze will die down with the appearance of the boy groups.

  So some people say that as the Wonder Girls are acting on the world stage, it is the practical way of sustaining the craze to advance into foreign markets. The Girls Generation’s Asian tour next year may not differ much from it.

  An official from the music industry said, “What is clear is that the public cannot find a distinct character from each of the girl groups. Becoming similar to each other, the front-runners will just remain as mere girl groups not as the leading role of the craze”, but also said, “If the society continues to have an atmosphere of solemnity, the influence of the girl groups will continue to some degree, though it cannot be a craze.”

The ‘war of girlgroups’ can also be felt amongst people working in the corporate work.

A survey done recently on corporate workers gathered responses from 1,239 people on the question ‘The singer groups you like’ and 96.2% of the respondents revealed that there is a singer group which they like.

And in ranking their favourite singer group So Nyeo Shi Dae came in 1st with 46.1% response and group KARA at 2nd position with 30.2% response.
