Wonder Girls shed tears & messages to Sunmi on Win Win

The Wonder Girls recently guest-starred on KBS 2TV Win Win, where they reconnected with their Korean fans. Amongst the fun and excitement, the girls got serious when they came upon the topic of exited member SunMi.

When MC Kim SeungWoo questioned the girls as to how they came to terms with the harsh reality of SunMi’s departure from the group, the girls shed tears and became solemn.

YuBin, who was SunMi’s roommate, hid her pain through a smile as she talked about the unnoticed hints that SunMi dropped about her hardships, saying,

I actually shared a room with SunMi in America. Honestly, SunMi often told me in a playful tone, “Unnie, I’m having a hard time. Should I give up?” She said it really jokingly, and I just accepted it as a joke and went along with her, “Oh, really? Then don’t [stay in the Wonder Girls].” That’s something that I really regret that now. I’m wondering why I did that; how did I not see it? If I sensed it back then, I would’ve been by her side and comforted her. I think I really regret that.

YeEun seemed to be the most emotional out of the group as she spoke,

I think that it was the hardest thing that we’ve had to face [during our three years as the Wonder Girls]. We went to America, and we went through a lot of pain. The five of us had a really hard time. I had the hardest time accepting [SunMi's departure] and so I didn’t want to acknowledge it. I worked really hard trying to make SunMi change her mind. I kept telling myself that something like that made no sense; how could it be happening? I kept trying to ignore it…

And she trailed off as her emotions got the best of her, and she couldn’t say anything more. However, leader SunYe stepped in to save the scene. She said,

The most important thing is that even though it was really hard for us all to come to terms with in the beginning, the most important thing is SunMi’s happiness. The Wonder Girls’ happiness as a whole is important too, but our individual happiness is more important. SunMi has her own life and so we thought that we should support her. Later we got to hear SunMi’s side too, and we shared a lot of talks.

When MC Kim SeungWoo talked about how he had heard that SunMi called the Wonder Girls when they arrived in Korea, YeEun added, “The most upsetting part is when people ask, ‘Do you still keep in contact?’ It’s not ‘do you still’…” Before she stopped once again due to the overwhelming emotions. YuBin swooped in and picked up from where YeEun left off and said,

It’s not “do you still keep in contact”. SunMi will forever be a Wonder Girl. We had our first music show broadcast today, and SunMi sent us a text telling us that she monitored our performance. [It read: "I saw it well; fighting!"] I was so heartbroken that I…

YuBin put her head down to shed some tears.

Kim SeungWoo offered, “So that means that SunMi watches your broadcasts. Why don’t you say something to her?”

YeEun smiled through her tears, laughing, “The thing that I’m most embarrassed about is that we always text each other, but I’m bawling on this show.”

Sohee, who had spaced off for most of this emotional discussion, said,

I think that SunMi monitors us more than we ourselves do. She’s really studying hard right now. We’re always supporting SunMi, and SunMi is always supporting us. We’ll never forget each other, and whether we’re in America or Korea, we’ll always call each other and live as if we’re right next to each other.

SunYe spoke to SunMi with a sweet message, saying,

Our SunMi, even though it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen each other… I want to first congratulate you for passing your GED. Even though we’re separated from each other, I want to thank you so much for encouraging us and sending us those texts. Since the time that we’ve spent together will never disappear, I want to meet up again whenever and have a good time. We’ll always support you wherever you are. We miss you, our SunMi!

This emotional conversation ended with a slow montage of SunMi’s performances and times with the Wonder Girls and tears in everyone’s eyes.
