Fan Account of Wonder Girls in LA 8/8
By Jason@WGSpectacle
I am going to be as brief as possible.
I wanted to make this super awesome as a FAN*TASTIC, so I decided to buy them a cake because it was close to SunYe’s birthday and a gift like that would be pretty cool, in my opinion. It was Strawberry Cheesecake by the way.
Verizon Store: The Wonder Girls had a Verizon Store Event, and I opted to go to that, even though I knew I would see them as a FAN*TASTIC. From other Fan Accounts, I read that they would only sign one thing. I told my friend that I would get her one. So going to the Verizon Event would be a “smart” thing to do, or so I thought. I brought the cake along, but that was a bad idea. When I got there, the line to meet them was already a block long. It wasn’t hot, but I stayed in the shade as much as possible to keep the cake safe, just in case I wouldn’t meet them. And that was case. (Though they stayed for 40 minutes longer than they needed to).
Post-Verizon Store: The meeting for the FAN*TASTICS start at 8:45 PM, so I had 5 hours to kill. LA is a cool place to explore, so it wasn’t too bad. But since I couldn’t get the cake to them, I needed a way to keep it cool. So I bought a basket and filled it with ice. I took the subway to Staples Center, and just waited it out. There were so many Jonas Brothers fans, it wasn’t even funny!
Staples Center: The Staples Center staff is terrible. They didn’t know about the Wonder Girls FAN*TASTICS and thus made it impossible to explain that I was here for that. I eventually met up with a few other FAN*TASTICS (no need to get into that). 8:45 came.
Meeting the girls: Hana came, she is really cool. Blackberry with the list of people who made it. She is tech-savy! We got wristbands. Then we just waited until the girls were ready. It took 45 minutes. Hana told us they were behind schedule, so all they had time for would be a photo. We were ALL disappointed to hear such a thing. What made it worse was that we had to take it in groups of 2 or 3. When they showed up, they were in their gold dresses. They were gorgeous. We started singing the “Nobody” chorus, and YeEun and SunYe, did the clap, clap, point to us! When it was my group’s turn I gave them my cake, they were like “CHEESECAKE!? Thank you so much!” Then my group and I went down the line and hugged all of them. They said “hi, nice to meet you.” Then we got ready for our Photo-Op picture. We gave the staff our camera so that we could have our own. I used a Polaroid (because I hoped that I could get it signed at the end of the Meet and Greet of the concert). Then it was over. That’s it.
After meeting the girls: We passed out fliers. It was really annoying watching some people not even taking the fliers. There was one account where I passed it to a little boy, and he was like “EW, Wonder Girls!” and threw it back in my basket full of fliers. But there was this one woman, that said their music was AWESOME, and that if we could talk to them, tell them that. She even asked about the Nobody single and their Korean CDs, how she could get them, etc. She even asked for extra fliers. She made being a FAN*TASTIC worthwhile.
Finishing the fliers: All of us FAN*TASTICS were not satisfied, because we saw the Meet and Greet through the doors, at the end. And the Staples staff just wouldn’t let us through! So, we went to the closest door and started chanting, “LET US IN!” And eventually Hana came out and said, we could take one last photo, but no autographs. We were fine with that because we never got our pictures with them individually. But as Hana was letting us in, they ended the whole thing. So we weren’t able to get that last picture. But the Wonder Girls saw us and waved one last time.
Final thoughts: It was REALLY disappointing as a FAN*TASTIC, because we got nothing. If we bought concert tickets, we could have just gone to the end of the concert’s Meet and Greet and have gotten the same treatment. We didn’t get CDs or T-Shirts, and worst of all, NO AUTOGRAPHS! As a fan, I got to meet them and get a picture! But even if I just saw them at that concert, I could have done the same at the end of the Meet and Greet. The other FAN*TASTICS were awesome though. I rate my experience a 6.5/10. All I really wanted was an autograph. I don’t blame the girls for it, it was just a time thing.
